Competition FAQs
We are coming from out of town, where can we stay?
We have two suggestions:
1. Stay at the Comfort Inn a few miles down the road (call 330-821-5555 and mention “Competition Wrestling Camp” for special rate).
2. Look into our team camp. It runs Tuesday, June 26th through Saturday June 30th. Tuesday through Thursday will be spent training and Friday and Saturday will be at the competition camp. The cost is $300 per wrestler and that includes food, housing, and the cost of the competition camp. Group discounts are available.
Our team will not be attending, but my child wants to attend the camp. Are unattached wrestlers permitted?
Yes. Unattached wrestlers will either be used to fill in holes on other teams lineups or they will be put together on “All Star” teams coached by camp counselors.
Can we bring more than one team?
Yes. We encourage larger teams to bring two teams to the camp.
I won’t have two full teams, but will be bringing extra wrestlers. How will this work?
The $500 registration fee covers up to 15 wrestlers. You can bring a 16th wrestler, but must pay an additional $50 for that wrestler and each additional wrestler over 15. Your extra wrestlers can fill in an open spot on another tam or you can split time with your wrestlers at the same weight.
We will only be bringing 8 wrestlers. Is the cost still $500?
If you bring 9 or less wrestlers, the cost is $50 per wrestler. So 8 would cost $400. We will work to combine you with another small team or add unattached wrestlers to your team so you can compete with full teams.
Are there any team awards?
There will be no official team awards. We encourage you to keep your own records.
Will there be certified officials at this camp?
In order to keep costs down for all the campers, we have decided to use college wrestlers and others as our officials. The emphasis of this camp is getting wrestling experience. Please keep in mind that our officials are not certified.
Why isn’t there an official weigh-in?
To simplify the operation of the camp and for the convenience of our campers, we ask you to hold honor weigh-ins on Thursday. Before each dual meet, please meet with the opposing coach to discuss weights and experience and match up wrestlers the best you can.
Why aren’t there weight classes?
We chose not to have weight classes at this camp for a number of reasons. We believe weight classes may encourage wrestlers to cut weight. Our goal is to give each wrestler a number of competitive matches. We would rather coaches match up wrestlers to create the best competition possible, rather than wrestle dual meets only looking to win.
How much money should be brought?
Campers wanting to purchase merchandise (shirts, shorts, etc.) should bring money for these items. Concessions are also available for purchase. Please plan ahead and send a limited amount of money with your wrestler to avoid any problems.
What happens if a wrestler becomes injured or ill during camp?
At all wrestling sessions there are student medical trainers on-hand to administer immediate medical attention. Also, if your wrestler becomes seriously injured or sick during camp, the Alliance Hospital is less than one mile from campus.
What type of payment do you accept?
All payments must be made prior to check-in. We will accept personal checks or certified checks through the mail. We can take credit cards through our online registration.
Can parents come to watch?
All sessions are open to the parents, coaches and friends of the participating wrestlers. Spectators are welcome to sit matside during both technique and competition sessions, and video cameras are permitted.
