The Purple Raiders have returned from our trip to Florida as the Citrus Open Team Champions. We are currently ranked 28th nationally and finished ahead of 29th ranked Rhode Island and 30th ranked Oneonta. We now have a week of solid training before we take on the defending OAC Champions Heidelberg next Tuesday at home.
2009 Citrus Open
Highlights
-Team Champions (My first team title since being at Mount Union)
-4 Individual Champions (Malave, Manypenny, and Hesson each won a college tournament for the first time in their careers. Schindel won a tournament for the second time)
-Mike Manypenny was named OAC Wrestler of the Week for his title
-Place-Winners in all 9 weights we wrestled (we did not wrestle at 125)
-Top three finishers in 8 weights
-4 wrestlers finished in the top 8 at 149 (Clark 3rd, Regula 4th, Shadrach 6th, Severino 7th)
-Clark and Regula both lost close matches in the first round to nationally ranked wrestlers before each winning 5 straight to wrestle for third and fourth
-Two wrestlers earned their first career wins
